KUCHING: Sarawak civil servants will receive an early Christmas present on Dec 18 — a special financial aid of two months’ basic salary or minimum of RM2,000.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion said this when met by reporters after officiating at the Sarawak Civil Service Health Carnival closing ceremony at the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building here yesterday.

“The bonus will be paid out together with their monthly salary on Dec 18, which is just before Christmas.

“We are talking about 16,000 members from all categories such as management, support group and professionals,” he said.

The two months’ basic salary bonus with a minimum of RM2,000 ringgit was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when he tabled the 2020 State Budget on November 4.

When asked whether the local councils would adopt the special aid, Jaul said that it was up to the local councils and statutory bodies to decide on their own as they have to bring it to their own Board.

“That is why we start with the state civil service and they (local councils and statutory bodies) have to decide whether to adopt it or not.

“Then, they will bring it up to their Board for consideration depending on their affordability,” he said.
