Eight new clusters emerge

KUCHING: The State Health Department declared the emergence of eight new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak on Thursday (Sep 2).

Of the new clusters, five are workplace clusters while two are community clusters.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Sepom Cluster in Serian district is a workplace cluster involving employees and occupants of the Serian Palm Oil Mill Sendirian Berhad (Sepom) located in Jalan Mongkos, Serian.

Of the 52 people screened, 45 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 whereas seven tested negative.

The Maxbi Libai Cluster in Subis district is a community cluster involving residents in a longhouse under the enhanced movement control order (Emco) located at Sungai Libai, Batu Niah in Subis.

Of the 266 people who were screened, 93 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, 168 tested negative, and five are still waiting for results. The cluster also reported six new cases today.

The third cluster, also known as the Kampung Dangak Cluster in Kuching District is a community cluster involving residents in Kampung Dangak located at Jalan Stephen Yong in Kuching.

All the 19 people screened including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and the cluster also reported three new cases today.

The fourth cluster dubbed the Jalan Usaha Jaya Dua Cluster is a workplace cluster involving employees and occupants of an electronics factory located at Jalan Usaha Jaya, Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone in Kuching.

All the 41 people screened, including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and the cluster also reported two new cases today.

The fifth cluster, namely the Industri Jalan Semeba Cluster is a workplace cluster involving employees and occupants of a factory located at Jalan Semeba in Kuching.

Thirty-two people who were screened, including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and the cluster also reported one new Covid-19 case today.

The sixth cluster, also known as Kampung Panggil cluster is a community cluster involving residents in four longhouses in Kampung Panggil and Kampung Nyelam, Sri Aman.

Of the 222 people screened, 55 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, 39 tested negative, and 128 still waiting for results.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Bintulu-Bakun Cluster is a workplace cluster involving workers and occupants of an oil palm plantation under the enhanced movement control order (Emco) located at Jalan Bintulu-Bakun in Bintulu.

Of the 20 people screened, 19 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, and one still awaiting test result. The cluster also recorded 18 new cases today.

The eighth cluster, namely the Galaxy cluster is a workplace cluster involving employees and crew of an offshore supply vessel currently anchored at Bintulu waters.

Of the 166 people who were screened, 41 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, and 125 still waiting for results.

All positive cases are receiving treatment at hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) in the respective districts.

On a lighter note, SDMC reported the end of two clusters namely the Benteng Sri Aman cluster in Sri Aman District and Kampung Semban cluster in Kuching district after no new cases were recorded involving the clusters in the last 28 days.

Presently, there are 137 active clusters in the state, with 19 of them recording 234 new cases while the other 118 did not register any new cases.
