SIMUNJAN: A total of 36 graves at the Kampung Lubok Punggur Muslim Cemetery next to Sungai Batang Sadong which were affected by soil erosion have been relocated to a new site.

Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) in its news report quoted special representative to Gedong, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais as saying the graves were moved to Kampung Lubok Bunting Islamic Cemetery on Tuesday.

He said that the transferring of the graves was being done in phases.

“The Kampung Lubok Punggur cemetery has been used by Muslims around the Pangkor zone since the 1950s.

“However, it has started to be affected by soil erosion of Sungai Batang Sadong over the past few years and we need to find a new cemetery site,” Naroden said.

The transfer of the graves was conducted by Ustaz Wan Asagaf from the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) Samarahan Division.

Kampung Lubok Punggur Muslim Cemetery relocation committee has  applied for an allocation of RM50,000 from  Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to cover the cost of relocating the graves.
