Fatimah vows to do her best

KUCHING: Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah is determined to carry out her duty and responsibilities as an elected representative and a minister for the state.

Fatimah, who is also the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women chief, said that she would also try to balance her duties as a working wife, mother, grandmother and community member.

“I hope the people involved in politics would place their confidence in the GPS-led government by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“I also hope that the efforts to empower women in politics, in making decisions, education, social and economic goals will be achieved,” she said.

Meanwhile, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie said she was thankful and overwhelmed by all the new experiences and memories in the past year.

“I look forward to an even better year (2020) and that Sarawak will continue to prosper under our chief minister Abang Johari’s leadership,” she added.

She also hoped that fellow Sarawakians would continue the ‘Sarawak truly Asia’ spirit and to remain unanimous in the pursuit for a better, richer and unified Sarawak.

“Put our differences aside and let’s roll up our sleeves. There are many things to discover in 2020 but first let’s start with one collective mission towards upholding Sarawak, our Ibu Pertiwiku, as a subject of reference for prosperity, harmony and unity beginning 2020.

“Let’s cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right. Happy New Year!” said Doris.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Women chief Kho Teck Wan also wished for a united, progressive, peace and prosperous Sarawak.

“I hope Sarawak will be successful in its fight to claim what is rightfully ours, especially in the oil royalty, the five percent state sales tax on petroleum products and the oil mining licenses,” she said.

She hoped that Sarawakians would continue to grow in technical innovation, creativity and commerce while maintaining its unity and love towards heritage and culture.

“I wish the best for Sarawak and am optimistic that so long as we remain united as Sarawakians, we will progress as the most advanced and progressive state in Malaysia,” said Kho.

Meanwhile, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Women chief Chiew Yen Chew hoped that the year 2020 under the GPS government would continue to give Sarawak its political stability, racial and religious harmony.

“I strongly believe Sarawak under the GPS government will bring more prosperity. I hope that all political parties under the GPS coalition will continue to stay united and soldier on to protect and fight for Sarawakian rights under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA 63).

“The year 2020, no doubt, will be a challenging one and I wish to see more and active women participation as moving agents of politics and economy in our country,” said Chiew.
