KUCHING: The Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) welcomes the participation of private hospitals and clinics in administering Covid-19 vaccines to vaccinate the public widely and quickly to achieve early herd immunity.

“Private clinics and private hospitals are just one of the vaccination centres together with the other public hospitals or community centres,” it said.

Earlier, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said that over 30 private general practitioners (GP) clinics and seven private hospitals in the state have registered with the Protect Health Corporation (PHC) to assist in rolling out Covid-19 vaccine shots to the public by appointment basis through the MySejahtera system.

SBF noted that the Covid-19 vaccination at these private clinics and hospitals was free of charge to the public as the government bore the cost of the vaccines and paid a nominal administration fee to said institutions.

“The number of inoculations of the vaccines on the public is expected to pick up substantially in anticipation of the increase in Covid-19 vaccine supply of more than a million doses every month under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (Pick) starting from June to August,” it said in a statement yesterday.

As of May 20, only 1,147,403 eligible Sarawakians registered for vaccination through the MySejahtera app, with another one million Sarawakians yet to register for Covid-19 vaccination.

“As such, SBF appeals to the general public to register for vaccination as soon as possible so that herd immunity can be achieved as soon as possible.

“In particular, SBF appeals to the business community to play a proactive role by encouraging their employees to register themselves for vaccination as a noble exercise of their corporate social responsibility,” it urged.

“The procedure and process remain the same, with registration via MySejahtera and those entitled to be vaccinated in Phase 2 will be eligible, without an option to pick their hospital or clinic or type of vaccine.
