Fined RM1,800 for stealing a fan

KUCHING: A labourer was fined RM1,800 in default four months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today (May 12) for stealing a fan.

Azizul, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code which was read by an interpreter in front of Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

He was accused of disposing of stolen property belonging to a 25-year-old man in Kampung Matang at around 7.40 am on April 26.

According to the facts of the case, on April 26, at around 7.40 am, when the complainant arrived at his father’s house in Kampung Matang, he found that it had been broken into.

His brother’s motorcycle, which was damaged and left outside the house, was also missing.

The complainant was informed by his neighbour that he saw the accused pushing away the motorcycle.

So the complainant joined the neighbour in the pursuit of the accused.

When the motorcycle could not start, the accused pushed it into the bushes and fled but he was successfully caught by his pursuers.

However, the accused later managed to escape into the forest behind the neighbour’s house.

When the complainant checked his father’s house, he found that a fan was also missing.

The estimated loss suffered by the complainant was around RM250.

The complainant then lodged a police report which led to the arrest of the accused on April 27.

As a result of the investigation, the accused was found to have intentionally disposed of stolen property, including the fan belonging to the complainant.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
