MIRI: A fierce fire swept through six doors of a 105-door longhouse in Long Belok, Apoh, Baram, leaving 28 villagers homeless on the morning of April 4.

Reports from the Marudi Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the department was alerted to the fire at 7.55 am. Six doors of the longhouse had already been engulfed by the flames.

“The remote location of the longhouse posed a challenge for the firefighters.

“When we arrived the fire had significantly diminished, making immediate intervention unnecessary. Nonetheless, we evaluated the situation and offered aid to the impacted villagers,” Bomba said.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire broke out around 3 am that day.

The exact cause remains under investigation and fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties reported.
