KUCHING: The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Padawan is celebrating International Women’s Day by hosting its first Embrace Market at Green Heights Mall from March 8 to 10.

Organiser of Embrace Market and JCI Padawan Member, Martiana Chia.

Martiana Chia, a member and organiser of JCI Padawan, said that the event aims to educate the community about the importance of honouring women in society.

“Through Embrace Market, we aim to celebrate the women in our lives and advocate for the eradication of violence against women and children,” she said.

The venue, Green Heights Mall, was specifically chosen to offer a comfortable and secure environment for attendees, especially women, to share their stories and experiences.

Chia highlighted the market’s unique feature, ‘Embrace Thrifting,’ where vendors sell pre-owned items at reduced prices, facilitating both physical and symbolic release from past burdens.

In collaboration with the Sarawak Women for Women’s Society (SWWS), the market will also host a workshop, ‘Overcoming Discrimination: Need for Gender Equality,’ on March 9. This session is designed to be an inclusive space for open dialogue, learning, and awareness of rights.
