Five assault suspects picked up for questioning

MIRI: The police have rounded up five local men in connection with an assault on a man in Senadin here.

The 51-year-old victim was reportedly riding home with a friend from Kuala Baram around 8.20pm last Wednesday night (June 17) when the suspects cornered them near Senadin housing area.

“They accused the suspect of being involved in a motorcycle theft,” said Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah.

Prior to the incident, the victim and his friend had went to an area in Kuala Baram looking for jungle produce.

Suspects on three motorcycles approached the duo and questioned the victim before hitting him with wooden sticks.

A police report has been lodged by the victim.

Following a report lodged by the victim late Thursday night (June 18) the police picked up the suspects aged from 21 to 33 years old during an operation from 6.30pm to 8pm at Kampung Sealine, Lutong and the city area.

Also seized from the suspects were their motorcycles.

Lim said that police were still investigating the assault under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
