Five new deaths take state’s toll to 153

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded five new Covid-19 fatalities today, bringing the state’s toll to 153.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 149th death was Case 24,670, a 71-year-old local woman, who was admitted to Bintulu Hospital for fever and breathing difficulties.

“A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test was done and it returned positive on Apr 19. She passed away on Apr 21,” SDMC said.

She had comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, and dyslipidemia.

The 150th death was Case 25,621, a 54-year-old local man who was admitted to Bintulu Hospital for fever, fatigue, and breathing difficulties.

After testing positive on Apr 21, he passed away on the same day. He had high blood pressure and had a history of having strokes.

The 151th death was case 26,421, a local man, 61 years of age, who was found unconscious at home by his family members.

According to his medical record, he used to have difficulty breathing. He was referred to Sarikei Hospital for post-mortem where his rT-PCR test returned positive on Apr 19. He had asthma and high blood pressure and died on Apr 22

“His case was categorised as brought-in-dead (BID) and was linked to Sungai Gemuan Cluster,” SDMC said.

As for the 152nd death, it was Case 17,191, a 60-year-old local man who was referred to Bintulu Hospital after symptomatic screening through RTK antigen test which proved positive.

He had fever and flu days before, and when his rT-PCR was done he was found positive on Apr 3.

He had high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease and passed away on Apr 23.

The 153rd death was Case 22,114, a local woman aged 54 who was treated at Bintulu Hospital as she had digestive system disorders.

“She was admitted to the isolation ward as a person-under-surveillance (PUS) due to having had close contact with a positive case.

“She tested positive on Apr 15 and passed away on Apr 23. She had high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney disease,” the committee said.
