Five women detained in Miri for alleged online gambling

MIRI: Police detained five local women for their alleged participation in online gambling during Ops Dadu on Sunday (May 28) . The raid took place at a premises located on Jalan Merpati here.

All suspects, aged between 23 and 37, have been remanded for a period of four days. Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu stated, “The remand application was submitted to the Miri Magistrates’ Court on May 29.”

The operation was conducted by the Sarawak Contingent Police (IPK Sarawak) Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism Unit (D7) in collaboration with the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“During the raid, police also seized six computers and other equipment used for illegal online activities,” he added.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

The police advised the public to refrain from engaging in illegal online gambling activities. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the nearest police station or call 085-433730.
