KUCHING: Education continues to be a priority focus in the Pantai Damai constituency in efforts to produce highly competent human capital.

Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this was in line with the target set since the 90’s to produce at least one graduate per family.

In this regard, he said cooperation was also established between elected representatives, community leaders, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and parents to strengthen the field of education.

“We in Pantai Damai have always focused on education for a long time. We have implemented various efforts so that children in our area can gain knowledge and further their studies at institutions of higher learning (IPTs),” he said when presenting incentives to IPT students in Pantai Damai on Thursday (Jan 20).

Sixty-four students received the incentive during the ceremony which was held in two sessions.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Assistant Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, said that every student selected to further their studies at local or overseas IPTs needed to be wise in determining their respective directions.

“There are numerous crossroads to pass, so we need to always be prepared and wise in determining their future career,” he advised.

He said the success of graduating was important to be an example to their other family members to strive for success.

“We will be an example to our siblings and family if we succeed. So we should not waste the opportunity while at the IPT,” he said.
