BINTULU:The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for the upcoming Jepak by-election, Iskandar Turkee, has pledged to focus on various youth development programmes in the constituency.

Iskandar said he would not only strive to preserve the legacy of the late Datuk Talib Zulpilip, but also pave the way for a brighter future for the youths.

The 54-year-old candidate outlined his vision to empower local residents with skills tailored to their individual interests, ensuring their relevance to Sarawak’s development.

“Bintulu is an oil and gas hub so we will bring the youth to engage in skills training, especially for those unable to pursue higher education in public or private institutions.

“We aim to equip these young individuals with recognised certifications, thereby enhancing their marketability in the job market. This is my hope,” he said during a santai programme with villagers at Sait Jaya longhouse, Jalan Bintulu-Sibu today (Oct 23).

Iskandar stressed the importance of building human capital among the youth to ensure they meet the demands of the job market.

“We have to match them with the skills they are interested in. Therefore, we will see how we can work with state and federal training institutions for youth in Jepak to be equipped with the necessary skills.

“By providing them with certified qualifications, we can enhance their employment prospects and elevate their family’s standard of living,” he said.
