BINTULU: An unemployed foreigner was nabbed for possessing drugs believed to be methamphetamine worth RM1,000 last Sunday.

The 21-year-old man, who rented a shophouse here at Jalan Sommerville, was acting suspiciously and had his house raided by the police on Sunday morning.

District police chief  Supt Zulkipli Suhaili, said the arrest was made by a Bintulu NCID team around 11am.

“Inspections led to the discovery of 10 straw tubes containing crystal lumps suspected to be methamphetamine with an estimated weight of 7.4g and market value of RM1,000.

“The seized drugs and the man were taken to the police station for further action,” he said.

Zulkipli said that the man was found negative for drugs and is detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for further investigations.

The case is investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a jail term of not less than two years and not more than five years, and whipping of not less than three strokes and not more than nine strokes.
