The army managed to arrest six Indonesians who attempted to return to their country through a rat trail on Saturday.

KUCHING: A patrol team from the 10th Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment (10RRD) thwarted an attempt by six undocumented foreigners who wanted to return to their country through a ‘rat trail’ (jalan tikus) on Saturday.

The First Infantry Division, in a statement, said that the group of six was arrested by the soldiers while patrolling the Tetangga Akrab oil palm plantation about 5.2km from the Malaysia-Indonesia border at 4.30pm.

During the patrol, the team spotted the group of Indonesians — four men and two women, riding three motorcycles to the border.

“All of them did not have a ‘Cross Border Pass’ (Pas Lintas Batas) and wanted to return to Indonesia via a rat trail.

“The detainees including items such as motorcycles, a 30kg of rice bag and mobile phone estimated to be worth RM14,550, were handed over to Serian police station for further action,” the statement read.

The First Infantry Division pointed out that with two cases of attempted exit through the border via a rat trail at the same location this week, proves that Tetangga Akrab oil palm plantation area is a preferred route for undocumented Indonesians.
