Four new clusters in Sarawak

KUCHING: The State Health Department today (Thursday) declared four new clusters, with two located in the Kuching district and one each in the districts of Tatau and Sibu.

The new clusters are the Jalan Setia Raja cluster and the Kilometre 23 Jalan Puncak Borneo cluster in Kuching ; the Sungai Separai cluster in Tatau and the Jalan Sungai Antu cluster in Sibu.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Jalan Setia Raja cluster was a workplace cluster involving a supermarket located at Jalan Setia Raja, Muara Tabuan in Kuching.

“Of the 30 individuals who were screened, 10 including the index case tested positive and 20 were negative,” it said in a statement today.   

The positive cases were admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) in the districts of Kuching and Serian.

On the Kilometre 23 Jalan Puncak Borneo cluster, the SDMC said this was a rehabilitation centre cluster involving the occupants of a narcotics rehabilitation centre located at Kilometre 23, Jalan Kampung Mambong, off Jalan Puncak Borneo in Kuching.

“Of the 122 individuals who were screened, 28 including the index case tested positive, 34 were negative while 60 are still awaiting laboratory results,” said the committee.

It said all the positive cases were admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the PKRC in the Kuching district.

The SDMC said the Sungai Separai cluster was a community cluster involving a longhouse under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Sungai Separai, Tatau.

It added that the cluster stemmed from social interactions and close contacts among the residents there.

“Of the 89 individuals who were screened, 33 including the index case tested positive while 56 were   negative.

“All positive cases were admitted to the Bintulu Hospital and the PKRC in Bintulu district for   of  isolation and further treatment,” it said.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Sungai Antu cluster is a workplace cluster involving a workers’ residence of a cold storage company located at Jalan Sungai Antu 3 in Sibu.

“Of the 35 individuals who were screened, 24 including the index case were positive while 11 were   negative,” said the committee, adding that the positive cases were admitted to the Sibu Hospital and the PKRC in the Sibu district.

The State Health Department also declared the end of five clusters as no new cases involving these clusters were detected in the last 28 days.

These were the Sungai Ngungun cluster in Kanowit, the Sebujok cluster in Sri Aman, the Jelang c  luster in Betong, the Tebakang cluster in Serian and the Jalan Sukma cluster in Kuching.

With that, the SDMC said there were still 96 active clusters in the state, with 16 recording 151 new cases today.
