Fundraising project aims to raise RM750k

KUCHING: A fundraising project, ‘Heart Run 2017’ aims to raise RM750,00 for two projects namely ‘Heart to Heart Programme’ and ‘Upgrading of Equipment at the Sarawak Heart Centre’.

It is organised by Sarawak Heart Foundation in collaboration with the Physiotherapy Department, Sarawak Heart Centre.

The project, consisting of a 2km Heart Walk, a 5km Fun Run and a 12km race, will be held at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) grounds, Petra Jaya Kuching on Sunday 24th September 2017.

This is held in conjunction with World Heart Day and World Physiotherapy Day, both celebrated in September every year.

It will be officiated at by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, and 3,000 people are expected to take part.

According to the chairman of the programme, Datuk Amar Hajah Jamilah Anu, the Heart to Heart programme provides financial assistance for children suffering from critical heart disease to undergo medical treatment in cardiac hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

“The patients, recommended by the Sarawak Heart Centre would, otherwise, have to wait for a long time to receive treatment. This initiative will ensure the patients get due attention and treatment and, at the same time, help ease the blacklog of cases at the Heart Centre,

“The treatment for each patient is estimated to cost RM60,000 and the programme targets 10 patients in a year. The total budget for the Heart to Heart programme is RM600,00,” said Jamilah during a press conference at the Laila Stroke Rehabilitation Centre, here, yesterday.

Meanwhile, on the upgrading of equipment at the Sarawak Heart Centre, Jamilah said the Physiotherapy Department needs Cardiac Mobile Monitoring System units to improve its services for the patients of Sarawak Heart Centre.

“The Cardiac Telemetry Monitoring System costs RM150,000 for five units. It is used to monitor patients with moderate to high risk of cardiac arrest during exercise sessions. As an essential aspect of cardiac patients, it can detect early ‘ECG abnormality”, thus prevents life-threatening arrhythmias,

“In the event that a patient has a cardiac arrest during an exercise session, the system can detect it and trigger an alarm for the medical staff to take action. It can monitor the patient’s irregular heart rhythm from moderate to high risk for up to 12 patients in one exercise session,” she explained.

For the 2km Heart Walk, the registration fee is RM25 which entitled a T-Shirt, for 5km Fun Run registration fee is RM50 and entitled to get T-shirt and medal, meanwhile, 12km race for Men and Women Open registration fee is RM60, and entitled to get T-shirt and medal as well.

The prizes for 12km race for Men and Women Open are RM500 for champion, RM300 for first runner-up, RM200 for second runner-up, RM100 for third runner-up, and for fifth until tenth placing will win RM50 each.
