SIBU: All contingents participating in the Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) are urged to make thorough preparations, especially in planning their team movements.

Sibu Resident Datuk Wong Hee Sieng said this is to avoid road congestion during peak hours that could result in the team arriving at the venue late.

Meanwhile, on the selection of Sibu as the venue for the 3rd edition of SUKSAR, Wong said that it is a source of pride for Sibu residents.

“It is a significant honour for the people of Sibu,” he said in his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony of SUKSAR at Sibu Indoor Stadium here today (Jan 15).

He said that the organisation of the games has become a foundation for fostering unity and strengthening ties among government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the community.

“The close collaboration and unity facilitate the smooth preparation of SUKSAR III in Sibu and should be maintained and strengthened, as this synergy symbolises invaluable solidarity among diverse ethnicities and religions.

The third SUKSAR will run until Jan 18, with the participation of nearly 1,300 athletes and sports officials from four zones: north, central, west, and south.
