SERIAN: A Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem is confident that the country will achieve stable politics after the 15th general election (GE15).

“As a seven term MP with 30-years of experience being a politician, I dare to say the country will have a more stable politics after GE15.

“In the last four years we have had three prime ministers. Indeed the people are tired,” he said during a Berambeh Sungkei Serian programme hosted at Masjid Darul Taqwa Kampung Hulu on Friday (April 8).

He agreed that party hopping could cause instability and uncertainty to the country’s political climate.

Riot who is also the Prime Minister’s special envoy to Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan said, in the wake of many politicians jumping parties in the last few years, Article 10 of the Federal Constitution on the freedom of association needed to be amended.

“You can’t pass the Anti-Hopping Bill without amending Article 10: Freedom of speech, assembly and association.

“Hence, the special sitting of Parliament on Monday (April 11) is critical to discuss Article 10, and subsequently will be brought to another meeting on the date of which will be announced by the Prime Minister.

“And I believe, all 18 Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MPs will support the tabling of anti-hopping law,” he added.

On another matter, when asked whether he will continue to represent his constituency or not, he said the decision is up to the Premier of Sarawak and the people of Serian.

“If they still want me, why not?” Riot said.
