SIBU: The Sibujaya Extreme Motocross GP is set to attract off-road motorcycle sports enthusiasts from outside Sarawak and even from overseas, thus promoting sports tourism in Sarawak and Sibujaya.

Rural Sibu District Council (SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai said that well-planned and well-promoted motorcycling events could become a tourism product similar to the F1 and Moto GP races in Sepang that are internationally renowned.

“For the residents of Sibujaya and Sibu in general, the Sibujaya Bike Week could serve as a platform to introduce Sibujaya to outsiders and strengthen the bonds among the diverse population when they visit the Sibujaya Bike Week venue,” he said.

He said this at the Sibujaya Bike Week 2023 opening ceremony organised by Amcorp Sibujaya Sdn Bhd and its partners here last night (August 26).

He said that SRDC continuously supports and welcomes the joint efforts of Amcorp and the organisers to once again bring the Extreme Motocross competition back this year.

“The GP Sibujaya Extreme Motocross Championship 2023, the highlight of Sibujaya Bike Week 2023, is scheduled to take place on Sept 2 and 3.

“I understand that this time, GP Sibujaya will include racers from outside Sarawak, indirectly promising an intense and competitive race for local riders,” he said.

He hoped that this GP Sibujaya and Sibujaya Bike Week would attract even more visitors and off-road motorcycle enthusiasts from all over Sarawak and beyond to come to Sibujaya.

Also present were SRDC secretary Ng Sian Wei, organising chairman Sii How Ping, and others.
