KUCHING: Members of parliament from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) currently attending the Dewan Rakyat session in Kuala Lumpur were given a special briefing on Sarawak’s development programmes and current issues yesterday.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg and Sarawak cabinet ministers were also on hand to enlighten the parliamentarians at the special briefing yesterday evening.

“It touched on pertinent issues affecting Sarawak’s development vis-a-vis the national economic and political landscapes,” said a statement issued by the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office here today.

The briefing was given by officers of the State Planning Unit, Sarawak Public Works Department and Rural Water Supply Department.

The state cabinet ministers present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian.

A total of 18 of the 31 MPs from Sarawak are from the GPS alliance comprising four Sarawak-based parties that quit the Barisan Nasional shortly after the 14th general election last year. – Bernama
