KUCHING: The seat allocation among the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component party in the next state election should not be an issue following the dissolution of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and the absorption of its members into Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said seat allocation will be discussed and addressed before the next state election.

“That one is okay. We will discuss it in due time. Election is definitely not this year. We will see what happens then.

“After all, there are only two seats, which are Bawang Assan and Engkililli,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters when hosting an Aidilfitri open house at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today (Apr 10).

Engkilili and Bawang Assan are traditional seats of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

Following the dissolution of PSB, it indicates that the two seats now fall under the purview of PDP, which is a component of GPS.

Former Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh currently holds the Bawang Assan seat, while Baru Bian represents the Ba’Kelalan seat and Johnical Rayong Ngipa represents Engkilili.

Abang Johari, who is also GPS chairman, stated that the former PSB members were accepted into PDP because of their alignment with GPS’s policies.

He also stressed the importance of acknowledging GPS’s accomplishments and its clear vision for Sarawak’s future.

“However, what is important is that they acknowledged what we (GPS) had done. This is crucial so that the whole Sarawak can be united under one,” he added.
