KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) maybe looking into accommodating Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the coming state and general elections.

Senior Minister of Works and Petra Jaya Member of Parliament (MP), Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the GPS would stand as it is and would have candidates contesting in all the seats, be it the state legislative assembly or Parliament.

“However, there will be some understanding with some of the MPs who are currently with Bersatu. Therefore, we will need to look at how we can accommodate them.

“Nevertheless, this is not on me. It is up to the prerogative of the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg. So I would not know what will be the final stance,” he said.

He said this in a press conference after officiating at the Malaysia Prihatin: Management of Covid-19 Pandemic programme held at Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Sarawak today.

In the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, Bersatu has one seat – Krian which is held by Datuk Ali Biju who is also the Federal Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

Ali is also the MP for Saratok alongside state Bersatu member Datuk Willie Mongin who is the incumbent MP for Puncak Borneo. Willie is the Second Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities.

Both had won their seats under Pakatan Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) but left the party to support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government.
