KUCHING: PKR is tearing itself apart, with party deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali going up against the president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PKR youths at each other’s throats and so are the PKR women.

According to political observer Datuk Peter Minos, PKR is like a Greek tragedy, tearing itself up and apart and heading for total breakup.

Anwar Ibrahim

He said all this happened because Anwar does not lead his party well, adding that the internal rot started when Datuk Seri Azmin Ali was challenged by Rafizi Ramli for the PKR deputy president post a year ago.

“We all know who backed Rafizi. We can also sense or guess who were behind the sex video created a while ago, one targeted at finishing off Azmin politically, if it was to be believed.

Rafizi Ramli

“Two things had happened — Rafizi’s challenge and the sex video have pushed Azmin to the corner, reducing him to a politician so hurt and wounded that he must fight back or be a goner.

“Now he is fighting back and he has crossed the Rubicon and there is no turning back. It is a do or die situation for him,” said Minos.

He said Anwar and group should have foreseen what would happen and should have exercised caution and prudence.

Minos pointed out that hitting the party’s deputy president, and a popular one at that, was not the wisest thing to do because in doing so, the particular group was actually hitting PKR’s own head, and that is what is happening now.

With at least 12 PKR MPs with Azmin and if they follow Azmin getting out or kicked out of PKR, Minos said the party would be badly crippled.

“That would put PKR down and so will Anwar’s position and status in PH and his hope to be the eighth prime minister in limbo, even vanishes,” Minos said.

He added that ambitious politicians must act very carefully and must be fully aware of the implications or possible consequences of their actions or decisions, adding that one wrong move and it can be fatal.

He said any jealousy or hostility towards or against Azmin should have been nipped in the bud.

Azmin Ali

Minos said Azmin and his faction including Minister of Housing and Local Government Zuraida Kamaruddin and Works Minister Baru Bian, all Cabinet ministers, will surely make their move when and if sacked or eased out of PKR.

“What happened in PKR shows that a party leader must always act with wisdom and avoid hostility to any party members. It is not enough that a party leader is smart and cunning.”
