SIBU: The ground floor of a two-storey grocery shop at Taman Rejang here was destroyed in an early morning blaze today.
Sibu Fire and Rescue chief Suna Kaha, in a statement yesterday said that 19 personnel from Sibu Central and Sungai Merah fire stations were deployed to the scene after receiving a call at 5.44am.
The fire involved the ground floor of a two-storey grocery store measuring 20 feet by 30 feet, which was about 90 per cent destroyed.
“The operations commander made a size up and performed a Rescue, Exposure, Confine, Extinguish, Overhaul (RECEO) method using two flow lines, two water jets and a fire hydrant pump to extinguish the fire.
“After the fire was successfully controlled, overhaul work was carried out until the fire was extinguished completely,” he said.
The fire was brought under control at 6.20 am and was completely extinguished at 6.32 am.
No injuries were reported during the incident and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
