Habitual offenders get five-year penalty

SIBU: Four habitual drug offenders will now spend the next five years behind bars for consuming illegal substances.

Loh Teck Kian, Kennedy Tansang, both 48, Wellson Gong, 24, and Joseph Benang, 26, who have no less than two previous drug convictions each, were also ordered whipped by Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan.

They maintained their plea of guilt in court.

In addition to jail, all except Kennedy were also ordered to get two strokes of the cane while Kennedy was ordered to be whipped once.

The court ordered them to be placed under police supervision for three years upon their release.

Loh was charged with consuming amphetamine and methamphetamine at about 9.30am on Oct 9, 2021 here.

Kennedy was found to have consumed similar drugs at about 7pm on Mar 2, 2021 in Kapit.

Wellson was found to have consumed methamphetamine at about 4.55pm on Jan 26, 2021 in Kapit.
