KUCHING: Kuching Surimas Fans of Art, Dance and Music Association jointly with Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall recently held a Halal Mooncake Making Competition to promote tradition, culture and arts activities during the ongoing Mid-Autumn Festival at the mall.

The competition, themed Mid-Autumn Festival – family reunion full of happiness and joy, was conducted by master chef Goh Ah Seng of Hoi Tin Loi Restaurant and chairman of Kuching Chef How Yu Association.

“There were 10 contestants and they performed brilliantly to make the perfect snowskin mooncake,” said a statement issued yesterday.

The event was witnessed by Kota Sentosa assemblyman, Wilfred Yap, who was very impressed with the sharing of mooncake making skill by master chef Goh.

He also commended the participation of the different races which truly showcased the state’s unity in diversity during the competition.

“Through unity we can be a strong and peaceful country that will bring prosperity to everyone,” he said.

Yap also visited the Gifted Art Gallery and was amazed by the beautiful paintings on display comprising paintings by 13 special children and young adults who showcased their talents.

The statement added that Yap empathised with the struggle and challenges these children have to go through in their lives and therefore made a financial contribution to support Kuching Association of Talent Development and Welfare of Special Needs (KATSN) activities with a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM5,000.

The prizes were presented by the chairman of Kuching Suriamas Fans of Art, Dance and Music, Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok to the winners in first placing, Cindy Kamsiah Anteh, De Arie (second placing) and Teochew Women Association (third placing).

The Mid-Autumn Festival is being held at Plaza Merdeka from Sept 22 till October 1 with various activities and competitions organised to bring social interaction as well as to foster unity in diversity.
