SEREMBAN: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh is optimistic that the national contingent’s poor showing at the SEA Games Cambodia can be improved upon and bettered at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China this September.

“All the improvements are ongoing, after the SEA Games, we did a post-mortem and also collaborated with the Nippon Sports Science University (NSSU).

“MSN (National Sports Council) and OCM (Olympic Council of Malaysia) also always work together to make sure we close any gaps,” she told reporters after attending the finals of the 2023 Tuanku Muhriz Trophy here.

The medals for the squash tournament were awarded by the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Patron of the Negeri Sembilan Squash Association.

On the medal target at the Asiad, Hannah said the ministry was still waiting for the results of a few more tournaments before the announcement was made by the chef de mission.

“This is sports, it depends on the athletes, I hope they get the best support, the government’s job is to help them as much as possible, when they enter the court or field, it is up to them,” she said.

The 2022 Asian Games are scheduled to take place from Sept 23 to Oct 8. –  BERNAMA
