KUCHING: The good turnout at the Kuching Festival shows the strong public support for Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

This was pointed out by the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud when he launched the Kuching Festival in the compound of Dewan Masyarakat here on Friday night.

“I am impressed to see that after so many years, the crowd is still big.
“The reception is good, it’s a good sign and gives you an indication that people do care for their city.

“This also shows how they support the efforts of MBKS to make Kuching more progressive and dynamic,” he said.

The former Chief Minister added that MBKS was very fortunate to have a Mayor who was very dedicated in making Kuching a better place.

“I do know that the city is well managed, the work is done quite well as the city is getting more and more beautiful and I hope this will continue for many more years,” he said.

“It is not an easy task to muster strong relationships among the people of diverse cultures, religions and creeds.

“In this respect, tolerance, mutual understanding and strong collaboration are indispensable.

“I am pleased to acknowledge the fact that Kuching folks can still live harmoniously with each other,” said Johari, who was represented and had his text of speech read by Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Meanwhile, MBKS Mayor, Dato James Chan stressed the importance of cooperation between the various councils and the community in making Kuching a better city.

“It takes two hands to clap. We should aim to always ensure a healthy, livable, and economically vibrant city for the people and our future generation.
