Head of State to grace Agong’s birthday celebration

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud received a courtesy call from the main committee for the forthcoming Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI’s birthday celebration at his residence in Demak Jaya here today (May 19).

The delegation was led by Transport Minister and minister in charge of the celebration, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

The purpose of the courtesy visit was to invite Taib and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, to grace the celebration as honoured guests.

Lee said Miri City had been chosen as the host for this year’s celebration.

“There will be two events held, namely, the Thanksgiving Ceremony at Masjid At-Taqwa Miri on June 4 and the Tea Reception at Pullman Miri Waterfront on June 5,” he said.

Lee added Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang were also expected to attend the celebration.

Deputy Ministers responsible for the celebration were Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala.

Also present were the Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee, Miri Resident Jamalie Busri, and the Ceremonies and Event Management Unit (UPPANS) director Datuk Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin.
