KANOWIT: Relentless rainfall led to a soil erosion behind a longhouse at Rh Mariam Jilan, Jalan Selalang yesterday (Nov 21).

Fortunately, no injuries or structural damages were reported in the 6 pm incident.

Civil Defence Force (APM) Sarikei district officer Lt Shahrol Azizi Zaidi said a four-member team was deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Upon arrival, the team found that the erosion, induced by the previous day’s heavy rain, had occurred on a hill behind the longhouse.

The residents also raised concerns about the stability of an electricity pole situated atop the hill, posing a potential risk of collapse.

In response, hazard tapes were promptly installed around the erosion area to prevent residents from going near the area.

The community was advised to be vigilant, consider relocating to a safer location, and promptly report any concerning developments to the authorities.
