KUCHING: Sarawak DAP chairman and incumbent Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen said that they will do their very best to defend their six parliamentary seats.

These seats, he said were vital to the formation of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government in the last general election, and believed it was important for the seats to be retained.

“We managed to change the government in 2018 due to the six parliamentary seats (won by DAP in Sarawak) and it has shown how vital it is in the formation of the federal government.

“If we can defend these six seats, I believe there is a high chance that we can become the government again,” Chong said.

In General Election (GE14), DAP won the parliamentary seats of Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Mas Gading, Lanang, Sibu and Sarikei.

Chong added that the reason they want to become the federal government again is to stop the kleptocrats from being in power again.

“We want to capture Putrajaya again in order to stop the kleptocrats from being in power again.

“This is to stop them from becoming the federal government so they can get themselves out of jail,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chong revealed that if PH comes into power after the next general election, they would still adopt the same budget that has been drafted by Perikatan Nasional (PN) before the dissolution.

“This is because the preparation of the budget usually takes around two months to do it and with the fact that there is only a month left after the general election, there is not enough time for us to draft a new budget for 2023.

“All the budgets drafted have its own strength and its weaknesses. It all depends on how it is being implemented at the end.

“With us in power, I believe Pakatan Harapan can implement the projects in a better way, more transparent, accountable and free of corruption or else it would not be fair to the taxpayers in general,” Chong explained.

In other news, Chong stated that DAP Sarawak will be using the Rocket logo for parliamentary polls in Sarawak in the upcoming general election.

“We have the autonomy here in Sarawak to pick the logo that we want to use and it has been made clear that we will be using the ‘Rocket’ logo,” he concluded.
