PADAWAN: Police arrested an unemployed man for allegedly hitting his wife after she confronted him about his use of methamphetamine at their home in Matang Jaya.

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the 26-year-old suspect was taken into custody following a report filed by his wife on Monday (Aug 28).

The incident unfolded on Sunday (Aug 27) when the 23-year-old victim discovered that her husband was taking drugs with a friend at their rented residence around 1pm.

She confronted her husband, leading to the friend having to leave.

“Following that, the suspect reportedly became agitated and repeatedly hit the victim’s head with his fists.” he said.

“The assault prompted the victim to retreat to a room to avoid further harm. She sustained bruising on the left side of her head and bleeding in her left eye.”

The couple, who had tied the knot just a year ago and have a young daughter, live together in the rented residence.

Investigations found that the incident stemmed from the wife’s reprimanding the suspect for allowing his friend to abuse drugs in their shared dwelling.

Abang Zainal pointed out that the suspect is a hot-tempered person and often went berserk.

“The suspect is currently being held at Beratok police station for further investigation.

“The case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for potential charges,” he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
