KUCHING: The House of Acacia is making a comeback after its successful second appearance at BCCK in 2015.

Organised once in every two years, the House of Acacia is constructed for the third time since 2013 at its first appearance during the Sarawak Grand Timber Expo 2013 & SMEs Expo 2013 held in June 2013 at BCCK.

This year the House of Acacia has been constructed for display at the 3rd Sarawak Timber & SMEs Expo 2017 being held on 18-21 May at BCCK here.

Held for the third time and with the Expo theme “Timber & Beyond”, construction of the House of Acacia will continue to promote the usage and utilisation of Acacia wood species as one of the best alternative materials that could boost the future development of the downstream timber industry in Sarawak.

“There have been many positive developments and progresses in the downstream activities through the R&D initiatives undertaken by STIDC in collaboration with Samling Group of Companies on Acacia since its started in 2013, says Datu Haji Sarudu Haji Hoklai, General Manager, STIDC.

“The continuous effort to display the ‘House of Acacia’ at the “Sarawak Timber & SMEs Expo 2017” is part of our strategic plan to increase awareness and

acceptance of Acacia by the timber industry and the public to meet our objective to turn Sarawak into a hub for Acacia furniture in the future. This is in line with our vision in transforming the timber industry into a high value industry by 2030”, he said.

The R&D collaborative effort between STIDC and Samling is to support the State Government’s policy in developing the forest plantation as source of future supply of raw materials in the timber industry for higher value add products.

The State Government has targeted 1 million hectares for the forest plantation in the State by 2020. Acacia tree, being a fast growing planted species, a renewable and sustainable source of material, qualifies for the ‘green product’ certification requirement.

The ‘House of Acacia’ will display a range of Acacia finished products and for structural purposes such as beam and roof thrusts, flooring, wall panelling, doors, door and window frames as well as indoor and outdoor furniture.
