MIRI:  A housewife here lost RM10,000 in a fake job scam after she was lured by the lucrative commissions.

According to Miri district police chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the victim in her 50’s, lodged a police report on October 13.

“The victim saw an advertisement offering a commission-based part time job on facebook on October 12,” he said.

The scammer told the victim that all she had to do was to simply press the ‘start’ button on the page and for each task completed, she will earn commission.

Completely beguiled, the victim proceeded to accomplish the tasks.

“She was then instructed to make a payment beforehand,” Naga said.

The victim made three transactions to a bank account number given by the suspect, amounting to RM10,000.

“She only realised that she was deceived after the suspect kept on asking for payments,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
