KUCHING: The winner of the poster design contest for the horror film Sumpahan Jerunei will have the winning artwork showcased at an international film festival.

The film’s producers, Datuk Nancie Foo and Datin Wendy Wong, revealed this to the students of Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus (Swinburne Sarawak), who are participating in the contest, on Tuesday (April 4).

“We want to show and tell the world that Malaysia has the talents within the younger generation,” Foo said during the sharing session.

The winner will receive RM1,000 and a Realme 3 Pro phone besides having his or her winning work showcased at an international film festival while second place takes home RM500, third place gets RM400 while fourth and fifth, RM300 and RM200 respectively.

Six educational institutions in Sarawak are participating in the competition, namely Swinburne Sarawak, University of Malaysia Sarawak, Universiti Teknologi Mara, SEGi College Sarawak, Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak, Cosmopoint College Kuching, and Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology.

Sumpahan Jerunei stars Bront Palarae, Uqasha Senrose, Daiyan Trisha, Amerul Affedi, Tony Eusoff and many more.

The horror film is inspired by the history and culture of Sarawak’s Melanau community.

Directed by Jason Chong, the film is scheduled to be in theatres at the end of July this year.
