Rusdi sharing tips on how to avoid online scams.

MUKAH: Government departments and agencies involved in the Local Agenda 21 (LA21) and Community Service programme at Kampung Seri Tellian here yesterday shared valuable information on their organisations as well as current issues.

The one-day programme, organised by Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) in collaboration with the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Seri Tellian, JKKK Tellian Permai and JKKK Tellian Daya, was held at the village’s multipurpose hall.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Mukah branch talked about various online scams and tips to avoid them.

Its assistant enforcement officer Rusdi Mohammad said the online scams included various types of loans, sales of products and provision of services.

According to him, the scammers are very smart and use various tactics in inducing and duping the consumers to part with their money and savings.

“One of the ways to avoid falling into their traps is to check and verify carefully their backgrounds, including with the authorities, to confirm their existence and status,” he said.

Earlier on, representatives from MDDM and Mukah Division Health Department presented talks on topics related to their organisations respectively.

These were followed by talks presented by the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB)/ Environment Department, Agriculture Department as well as Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

Demonstrations and a competition on 3R (reuse, recyle, reduce) and colouring contests for children and families were also held before lunch.

The departments and agencies as well as banking institutions involved also opened exhibition counters to deal with inquiries and related services while Mukah Division Health Department offered free health screening too.

The programme also featured a talk on ways of facing drugs abuse at the district-level; the talks involved Mukah District Office, National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), police and Mukah Division Resident Office.

On Friday, a rabies operation and ‘gotong-royong’ project to clean compounds in Kampung Tellian (comprises Seri Tellian, Tellian Permai and Tellian Daya) was also held as part of the programme.
