Interhill offers job opportunities, gives aid to fire victims

MIRI: In a bid to assist the 12 families affected by the recent fire at Kampung Wireless, here, Interhill Group of Companies has offered employment opportunities to the fire victims, besides handing over financial and non-financial contributions to them.

Interhill’a Group executive director, Albert Hu Yun Chai expressed his hope that the employment opportunities and contributions would help to alleviate the burden faced by these families.

“At Interhill, we advocate environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices. Hence, helping and supporting our communities have always been at the forefront of our corporate responsibility initiatives,” he said during the presentation of the assistance today.

Daily items and cash amounting to RM100,000 were presented to the victims by Interhill Group of Companies.

Through this effort, he added, Interhill wants the families to know they are not alone, and the company is hoping that they can resume their normal lives soon.

The simple handing over of the assistance was witnessed by Minister for Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Miri Mayor cum Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang , Miri Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf and one of Interhill Group board of directors Anny Hu.

Meanwhile, Lee, in his speech, commended Interhill on the noble gesture.

“It takes a collaborative effort among all stakeholders to help those in need in our communities. Through this effort by Interhill, the Group has demonstrated its belief in such spirit of collaboration, and that the Group strives to do its best for our communities,” he said.

Penghulu Samat Alip expressed his appreciation for the contribution.

“Interhill’s employment opportunity offers and contribution are a happy surprise for the villagers. We are grateful for this help. Thank you Interhill, for this kind gesture,” he said.

Interhill Group is a Sarawak based privately owned company which focuses on real estate development, hospitality and sustainable forestry development across the country. It was established in 1976.

On March 10, a blaze had destroyed nine wooden houses occupied by 80 people from 12 families in Kampung Wireless Miri.

All victims were moved temporary to Kampung Lereng Bukit community hall.

One of the victims, Abdul Rahman Rosli, 47, expressed his gratitude to Interhill Group of Companies for the assistance given yesterday.

“Thank you so much, it helps alleviate our burden financially,” he told the New Sarawak Tribune.

Another victim, Drahman Jawi, 58, who has speech impediment and was accompanied by his nephew, said (as told by his nephew Mohd Izrul Fiqri Obeng, 31), he really appreciates the contributions.

According to Mohd Izrul, at the moment, his uncle (Drahman) is staying with his family at Pujut after his house was destroyed in the fire.
