PN PLUS GPS FEDERAL CABINET
KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh should understand the difference between the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Plus GPS federal Cabinet as against a GPS Plus PSB coalition in the state administration.
Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar explained that PSB is a breakaway party from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and it has been a tradition and practice in Sarawak that the breakaway leader or individual who forms a new party could not be part of the same coalition anymore.
“It is different in the PN Plus GPS federal government. There are many things that the federal government could facilitate in Sarawak such as the ongoing negotiation for state rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA 63).
“It is to Sarawak’s advantage if the relationship between the federal and state is made this way,” Wan Junaidi said in response to Soon Koh’s remarks who accused GPS of double standard in agreeing to a PN Plus GPS formula in the federal government.
He reminded Soon Koh that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had always put Sarawak first in every consideration.
“The ongoing negotiation between federal and the state governments for the return of Sarawak’s eroded rights will be given a boost under the PN Plus GPS administration,” he said.
He stressed that GPS’ decision to be part of the government while not becoming a PN coalition was aimed at resolving the political impasse which was afflicting the nation.
“With our support, the country’s political stability was maintained so that the federal government could function smoothly to develop the nation, enhance our economy and share our wealth equitably.
“Based on these considerations, there is no comparison between the PN Plus GPS administration to help the nation and at the same time to help Sarawak to get what it deserved, compared to a GPS Plus PSB administration just to help the ego of some politicians,” he said.
