KUCHING: Police arrested a woman who had allegedly set fire on a car at Jalan Song Thian Cheok here on Sunday (May 30).

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the 34-year-old suspect is said to have committed the offence at a parking lot around 2 am.

“It is believed that the cause of the incident was motivated by jealousy.

“The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for arson by fire which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine, if convicted,” he said.

Firemen from Padungan station were alerted of the incident and rushed to extinguish the blaze which caused total damage to the vehicle.

There were no reports of casualties or injuries in the incident.
