PETALING JAYA: Employers are actively seeking talents with digital skills, in line with the digital economy and Industry Revolution 4.0, says talent sourcing platform Jobstreet.com.

Country manager Gan Bock Herm said according to its Job Outlook 2019 Survey, 43 percent of the surveyed employers were already embarking on a digital transformation journey and looking to grow their talent pool specifically in areas such as information technology (IT), computing, digital marketing, and research and development.

“Finding the right skill set is the number one priority. Digital transformation is inevitable as we get more globalised, and companies have to embark on their digital transformation journeys.

“Right now, there is a limited number of talents out there so employers need to be more proactive to source candidates from the passive talent pool,” he told a media briefing after unveiling the survey findings.

The survey also reported that the top five core work-related digital skills sought after by employers were digital marketing, software and application development, e-commerce, big data and analytics, as well as database skills.

The top five traits valued by employers were problem-solving skills, communication skills, ability to work independently, willingness to learn and ability to work under pressure

He said the survey also highlighted that about 60 percent of employers reported that they have implemented some form of digital transformation initiatives or projects, with the remaining employers surveyed at various stages of planning and starting their projects.

He said organisations must strengthen their innovation and technology capabilities to capitalise on growth, and they need skilled talent to support that business growth.

“The survey also showed that while 29 percent of employers surveyed were looking to hire new talent externally for the skills the business needs, a large majority of employers surveyed cited their willingness to invest in retraining and upskilling existing employees,” he added.-Bernama
