KUCHING: The state will announce July 30 as a public holiday in conjunction with the coronation of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

This was revealed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when met by the media after officiating at the 2019 Petronas Education Sponsorship and Human Capital Development ceremony at Hilton Hotel here yesterday.
“I thought the declaration was for the whole country,” he said.

When he was informed that the declaration depended on the respective states nationwide with Sabah announcing the day as a public holiday, he said, “We will follow suit with the declaration.”

On June 28, Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Ismail Bakar declared July 30 as an additional public holiday for the country under Section 8 of the Holidays Act 1951 for Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan.
