KUCHING: Villagers in Kampung Sikog near here have been complaining about a problematic junction for ages but until now, nothing has been done.

It seems that shoddy planning is to blame for the junction to Kampung Sikog from the Mambong-Sarig road – unsuspecting drivers would drive into the deep drain by the roadside.

Sanjan Daik, a political secretary to Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, urged the authorities concerned to quickly look into the matter for the safety of road users and well-being of the villagers.

Pating Juboi, a DAP leader at Kampung Sikog, said there had been incidences of vehicles falling into a deep drain at the junction.

“The junction poses an imminent danger to motorists at night due to no lighting at the junction.

“The junction is about 10 feet wide, making it impossible for two vehicles to drive through simultaneously. Apart from the narrow road junction, the poor condition of the road and drainage in the village is also another problem,” he explained.

Even though some parts of the road in the village had been tar-sealed, the quality of the work done and the drainage system is still way off.

“To date, the condition of the road or paths and drainage in the village has not improved much since 10 or 20 years ago,” said a villager, who declined to be

identified.
