Kaul Mukah Festival set for April 22-28

MUKAH: The iconic Kaul Mukah event is scheduled to take place from April 22 to 28 next year.

Balingian assemblyman and Mukah Melanau Association chairman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the agreed-upon date was finalised during the recent Federation of Melanau Associations of Sarawak’s meeting.

“During the meeting, our president has agreed that the 2024 Kaul Mukah will be held from April 22 to 28,” he said at a gala dinner organised by the Mukah Melanau Association recently.

Abduk Yakub added the event, rich in Melanau culture and customs, has become a draw for both local and international visitors.

“Thus, the previous Kaul Mukah, with various events held, have successfully attracted over 10,000 attendees,” he said.

On another note, Abdul Yakub said the Mukah Melanau Association which was established on June 24, 2006 currently has 279 registered members.

Affiliated with the Federation of Melanau Associations of Sarawak, which oversees over 10 Melanau associations throughout Sarawak, he said the federation plays an important role in supporting and maintaining the Melanau culture and traditions.

“The Federation of Melanau Associations of Sarawak is the highest body that assists other Melanau associations in terms of finance and ideas to ensure that every Melanau association remains active,” he said.

Among those present at the dinner were Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar; Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine; and Mukah Resident Kueh Lei Poh.
