LAWAS: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan hopes construction works on the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Awat-Awat will be completed by month-end.

According to news reports from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the school comes with several facilities that will enable teachers and students to learn in a comfortable atmosphere.

UKAS quoted Awang Tengah as saying that the school would provide facilities such as eight teachers’ rooms, six classrooms and a futsal field.

“But what is not available now is a hostel, therefore I will try to have a hostel for this school for the students,” he said told a press conference after visiting SK Awat-Awat, Sundar recently.

When completed, the school can accommodate about 210 students from Primary One to Primary Six and will also have a kindergarten building that can accommodate 60 students.

Awang Tengah said he had asked the Public Works Department (JKR) to make an estimation to build the hostel.

He also suggested that a park be developed at an open space so that the students could develop their skills in landscaping.

Meanwhile, the deputy premier said there were several development projects in Lawas experiencing delay and considered as sick projects.

“Therefore, the contractor needs to focus on the implementation of the projects that are delayed and do close monitoring to ensure that they could be completed.

“If there is no progress after being given a warning letter, I will ask them to consider cancelling their contracts because we do not want the projects to be delayed,” he said.

This harsh action was necessary for the interest of the communities who needed development.
