PETALING JAYA: Party leaders and heads of coalitions were granted a one-day extension by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah of the deadline to propose their prime ministerial candidate.

An FMT report said Istana Negara stated that they were given until 2pm tomorrow (Nov 22) to submit the names of their candidates.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the extension was given in view of the party leaders’ requests for an extension of the deadline.

The leaders were initially supposed to submit their choices by 2pm today.

“His Majesty urged and advised Malaysians to be patient and remain calm until the process of forming the new government and the nomination of the 10th prime minister is completed.

“His Majesty urges the people to pray for this process to go smoothly in the interest of the nation,” Ahmad said in a statement.

He said the King also reminded that the caretaker government led by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was still functioning.
