SIBU: Juma’ani Tuanku Haji Bujang Welfare Complex (KKJTHB) chairman Datuk Mohamad Yusnar Matalie has stressed the need for a positive perception shift towards the complex.

He urged the community to see KKJTHB not as a place for sympathy but as a platform to nurture the potential of its young residents.

Mohamad Yusnar clarified that KKJTHB is not merely a facility for the children of widows but a centre dedicated to enhancing their capabilities.

“The widows, who are mothers that have lost their husbands, understand the burdens they bear. Sending their children here is not a lack of love but a means to enhance their potential.

“Here, we build their self-confidence, provide martial arts classes to boost their confidence, and offer various activities such as culinary classes. We aim to uplift their potential,” he said in his speech at the KKJTHB Appreciation Ceremony 2023 last night (Dec 9).

According to him, many still perceive KKJTHB, formerly known as the Sarawak Orphans Welfare Institution (PERYATIM) Sibu branch, as a government-owned facility in Sarawak.

“In reality, that perception is incorrect. KKJTHB is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that requires support from all parties,” he added.

He also expressed hopes that the six residents of the complex who will be taking the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination to follow in the footsteps of their successful peers and pursue higher education.

“On this occasion, I would also like to express my gratitude to those behind the scenes for the success of the children in this complex who have managed to continue their education to a higher level,” he said.
