KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Amateur Swimming Association (KOTAS) came out as the overall champion of 49th Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championships after racking up 67 golds, 63 silvers and 50 bronzes in the three-day tournament which was held at Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre from Friday to Sunday.

The host Kuching Amateur Swimming Association (KASA) finished second after bagging 50 golds, 42 silvers and 53 bronzes while Miri Amateur Swimming Association (MASA) finished third with 27 golds, 33 silvers and 20 bronzes.

Bintulu Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) came up short by finishing in fourth with 12 golds, 7 silvers and 11 bronzes with Sibu Amateur Swimming Association (SASA) at the root of the table with 11 silvers and 19 bronzes.

Besides winning the overall championship, KOTAS also secured five out of 10 best swimmer awards with Kelly Teo Yao winning the best girl of Group A (15-17 years old category), Janice Tan Jin Xuan with best girl of Group B (13-14 years old), Sheryl Chew Tze Wen winning the best girl of Group E (8 years old and below), Darren Leong Yi Chen with the best boy of Group B (13-14 years old) and Sheamus Chew Heng Yi winning the best boy from Group D (9-10 years old).

KASA’s Jeff Chua Yu Yang won the best boy award for Group A and his teammate Kayleigh Ang won the best girl award for Group C.

MASA’s Bong Rui Jie won the best boy award for Group C while his teammate LiyshaLiung Celestine Baru won the best girl award for Group D.

Simpson Wong Zheng Hang won the only best boy award for BASA by clinching the best boy award for Group E.

The best boy and best girl award winners received their prizes from Amateur Swimming Association of Sarawak (ASAS) president Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
