KOTA PADAWAN: The road access construction project to Kampung Sapit is under the purview of the Public Works Department (PWD) and not under Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

Chairman of MPP, Lo Khere Chiang said that the task of the council is only confined to maintaining the minor road.

“We are not involved in the project because it is under the federal government, and also Kampung Sapit is next to Kalimantan Indonesia.

“We only do the maintenance part, and we have been maintaining the road ever since,” he said.

Lo said this when asked by reporters after the handover ceremony of appointment letters to Kapitan here today.

He added that the government has prepared a proposal under the General Operation Force to erect the border post between Sarawak and Kalimantan.

“We want to improve our border post as more Indonesians will be coming to Kampung Sapit,” he added.

In the meantime, Lo said that the council can issue a village licence for campsite operators who want to conduct their business in Kpg Sapit.

“We can issue the licence to them, just as long as they apply for it,” he added.
