KSB elects new chairman, officer bearers

KUCHING: Koperasi Sioux Bhd (KSB) has elected corporate figure Ibrahim Abang Saufi as its board of director’s chairman following its recent fifth Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Ibrahim succeeds outgoing chairman Iskandar Landau who held the position for the last term, since Dec 1, 2019.

Also elected were new office bearers for KSB, where Rosnah Bolhasaan was named as vice-chairman, Abdul Karim Abdul Rahman as secretary and Selina Jewawi as financial controller.

The AGM was held at Dormani Hotel, Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol, Kuching on Sunday (Feb 26) after a lapse of three years since Dec 2019 following the COVID-19 pandemic.

According a spokesperson for KSB, Ibrahim is a graduate from United States and is a well-rounded personality holding various portfolio in non-government organisations (NGOs) as well as being a committee member of the Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association.

Being involved in business since graduating, Ibrahim is the chief operating officer (COO) of Kenyalang Farming Servicer, producer fresh fish from the Betong region for export to Singapore.

“KSB is deeply honoured to have an experience person to take on the role of chairman of KSB, a cooperative that has been set up to look for opportunities for Sioux members for over eight years since 2015”.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim expressed his gratitude to the members for the trust that is placed upon him while also being aware of the responsibilities of his new role.

He also expressed his gratitude to Iskandar, for his dedication to the cooperative and his tireless advocacy to expand KSB’s reach in his three years as chairman.

“I am ready to pursue this mission with passion to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our members,” he said in his acceptance remarks.

He also expressed his appreciation to Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU) for the trust and providing KSB the avenue to kickstart its business through grass cutting and drainage cleaning works.

“DBKU’s commitment to KSB and their guidance, expertise and advise have been invaluable to KSB. KSB applauds DBKU’s initiative to the ensure the development of community cooperative,” he said.

At the same time, Iskandar also took the opportunity to thank his board colleagues, who he described as being his source of inspiration over the years.

KSB’s spokesperson said the new office bearers who are from diverse backgrounds are well grounded to understand the needs of the community and members as well as for the cooperative to move forward.

“KSB expresses its sincere thanks to Co-operative Societies Commission of Malaysia (SKM) for their guidance and advise over the years as KSB is still in its infancy and grappling with challenging requirements which needs to be met to ensure members’ interest are well covered”.

Present during the AGM were SKM assistant economic affairs officer Rodzalina Sabri as well as SKM auditor Norashida Jainudin.
